ENGLISH 3360: "Why did she have us read the article?"

Our first day of class and already we have homework.  Haha! I sound like an high school student.  I am taking an English Composition course for the first summer session.  Our first assignment was to read an article titled "Shitty First Drafts", taken from the book titled Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott.  Our professor also wanted us to blog about what was the reason for having us read the article in the first place.   I thought the article was very amusing and insightful.  I am really reluctant to write anything in fear of being wrong or sound ignorant.  I think the reason why she had us read it was to get us to think about how writing is not hard at all.  Just writing whatever comes to mind is what you should write and then critique and correct along the way till you have a "masterpiece."  We all know writing is a process but usually most students write the first draft without any thought to making it better.  I think this is what happens to me.  I usually procrastinate and end typing something when it's due because I put too much thought into every little thing.  I delete then rewrite over and over again and in the end, I end up with what I started with.  This time I did not do that.  I am typing my first draft at 4:30 p.m. the day before this is due (it's a summer class... there's homework everyday...) and I know I will go back to it later this afternoon and finally post it tomorrow morning which will be the morning of the post.
It's now the next morning and this is the first time I have looked at this blog again. I still feel the purpose for reading the article was to get us not to be so afraid of writing. Even the "pros" have problems.
